The Milford Bearcats will head out to take on the Herscher Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Milford came up short against Watseka and fell 8-4.
Caleb Clutteur made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Beau Wright, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Herscher had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Blue Devils. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Peotone's batters probably weren't too happy with Payten Young, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up a single walk).
On the hitting side, Herscher's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Egerton, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Herscher hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Herscher's victory bumped their record up to 28-5. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 13-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Milford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Herscher struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Milford beat Herscher 15-11 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
