North Mesquite is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They fell 14-10 to Adams. Even if the Stallions couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Angela Calderon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs. Savanah Oden was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, while West Mesquite put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Seagoville. The Wranglers didn't even let the Dragons on the board, marking the Wranglers' second-straight 17-0 shutout. The Wranglers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Amberly Cruz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clarissa Avila, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Julianna Guitierrez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
West Mesquite kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
West Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for North Mesquite, their loss dropped their record down to 5-20.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Mesquite has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .501. However, it's not like West Mesquite struggles in that department as they've averaged .509. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
