Shadow Ridge is a perfect 9-0 against Liberty since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. Shadow Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Shadow Ridge fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Centennial on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3.
Katelynn Quidato spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.
At the plate, Madison Foster made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Aleana Aionaaka was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, Liberty faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Cougars. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the game before.
Liberty also got a great performance from Charlotte Crittenden as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Liberty let Jaydah Chun and Ciana Cubi run wild. Chun scored three runs while going 4-for-5, while Cubi went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. What's more, Chun posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Crowder, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Shadow Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Liberty, their win bumped their record up to 9-3-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shadow Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Shadow Ridge's way against Liberty when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Shadow Ridge made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
