Basketball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Gaston Day's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Gaston Day unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 79-70 to the Ashbrook Greenwave. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (66), the Spartans still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Gaston Day still got an impressive performance from Braylen Todd, who posted 17 points. Todd has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Coulter, who had 12 points.

Ashbrook had a senior duo take command as Issac Byers Jr. dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten boards and Jamarion Patton dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Patton has scored all season. Jamari Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Gaston Day's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Ashbrook, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Gaston Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-52 win against Carolina International on the 4th. As for Ashbrook, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Kings Mountain's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
