Monticello is 0-6 against Meridian since March of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. Monticello will be playing in front of their home fans against Meridian at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated (Monticello has nine wins dating back to last season, while Meridian has three).
Monticello's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Tuscola with a sharp 17-0 victory. The contest marked the Sages' most dominant win of the season so far.

Cassidee Stoffel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Isabella Beery was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Sadie Walsh was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Monticello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tuscola only posted an OBP of .133.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Meridian and Argenta-Oreana meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Meridian skirted past Argenta-Oreana 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since May 4, 2024.
Ashley Schelling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shelby Renfro, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Layla Lucas, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Monticello's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Meridian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monticello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .429. However, it's not like Meridian struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
