Football Recap: Cummings Comes Up Short

Cummings extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-7. They were dealt a 57-24 loss at the hands of the Southern Alamance Patriots. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Patriots from their previous meeting back in September of 2022.

Loss or not, Cummings got some senior leadership from Jakori McNair and Devin Witherspoon. McNair threw for 246 yards and one TD, while Witherspoon gained 108 total yards and two touchdowns. A healthy portion of McNair's aerial production (83 yards to be exact) went to Jahsan Thompson.

As for Southern Alamance, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Southern Alamance got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Alexander out in front who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. The Patriots are undefeated when Alexander posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise. Sincere Thompson also helped out as he racked up 160 rushing yards.

Cummings didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 63-0 win against Graham on the 31st. As for Southern Alamance, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 27-7 victory against Western Alamance on the 31st.
