The Apex Cougars pushed their score all the way to 67 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Pinecrest 71-67. Even though they lost, Apex's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 52 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Apex's loss came despite strong showings from Zaelyn White and Kody Frey. White scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Frey scored 21 points along with three steals. White is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jaden Maynard was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five assists and four steals.
Pinecrest got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zymire Spencer out in front who scored 17 points. Spencer set a new season high mark in points with 17. The team also got some help courtesy of Javion Saunders, who scored 14 points.
Apex's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Pinecrest, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apex will take on Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Level is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Pinecrest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clayton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Clayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
