Beatrice had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-16 to make it six. They fell just short of the Hastings Tigers by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Orangemen have suffered against the Tigers since March 22, 2018.
Austin Baldwin made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Carson Workman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Hastings, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Beatrice since March 22, 2018.
On Hastings' side, Owen Ablott and Trindyn Degodt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ablott tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Degodt tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hastings is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-14 otherwise. At the plate, Ablott went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI, while Degodt got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brennan Criss, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Hastings is undefeated when Criss posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Wibbels, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
As of now, neither Beatrice nor Hastings have any future games scheduled.
