Brodhead is 8-2 against Big Foot since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cardinals will head out to challenge the Chiefs at 5:00 p.m. Brodhead's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Big Foot's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for Brodhead after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Jefferson by a score of 2-1. The match marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Ava Risum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Big Foot waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Holly Kynell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Kynell was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
Kynell wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Claire Patek, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Big Foot hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Big Foot's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brodhead, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-4 record.
Big Foot's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Brodhead has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Big Foot, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Brodhead keep running through batters, or will the Chiefs buck the trend?
Brodhead beat Big Foot 3-0 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
