Valley View and North Pocono are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Valley View will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Valley View's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Delaware Valley with a sharp 16-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Taylor Cawley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Zoie Krupovich was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Emily Moyles was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Valley View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delaware Valley only posted an OBP of .077.
Meanwhile, North Pocono faced Abington Heights in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Trojans fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Comets: they've now lost four in a row.
North Pocono saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Forgione, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Valley View's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Pocono, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Valley View hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 2.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like North Pocono struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
