The Niskayuna Silver Warriors are on the road again on Friday and play against the Somers Tuskers at 6:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Niskayuna had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They really took it to Cornwall Central for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-14 victory on the road. Niskayuna's win was all the more impressive since Cornwall Central was averaging only 13.67 points allowed on the season.
Meanwhile, Somers had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.1 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They put the hurt on Averill Park with a sharp 31-7 victory. Given Somers' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Averill Park is ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Somers' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Kelly led the charge by rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Mac Sullivan, who threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Somers' defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Ryan Cole and his three sacks.
Their wins bumped Niskayuna to 11-1 and Cornwall Central to 11-1.
Niskayuna took a serious blow against Somers in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 35-7. Can Niskayuna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
