If the Saguaro Sabercats were riding high off their 66-46 takedown of the St. Mary's Knights last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Saguaro took a 60-45 bruising from Seton Catholic on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Saguaro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Seton Catholic is ranked 14th).
Saguaro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marley Jackson, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jada Mitchell, who scored 13 points.
Saguaro struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Seton Catholic pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Seton Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Dipuccio out in front who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn M Benally, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Saguaro's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Seton Catholic, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.
Saguaro will be playing in front of their home fans against Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Arcadia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Seton Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Averaging 64.3 so far this season, Mesquite's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Seton Catholic better be ready for a challenge.
