Payson hasn't had much luck against Spanish Fork recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Dons at 3:30 p.m. Payson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Payson came into this matchup off a tough eight-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Sky View by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since March 7th.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork faced Desert Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Dons narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Thunder 10-8. The win was familiar territory for the Dons, who have now won three games in a row.
Paizley Boman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Lia Higginson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Paisley Ross was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Spanish Fork's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Payson, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Payson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Payson might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Spanish Fork in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
