2A District 8 recap October 1, 2013
Commerce extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week by beating Wyandotte, 56-21. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Kansas was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Comets defeated Quapaw 63-14 earlier in the week.
The Wildcats' dynamic duo of Garrett Kelly and Alec Hayward proved tough for Kansas to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kelly threw for 138 yards and Hayward had 60 yards receiving. Beau Kibel helped Quapaw's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 59 yards.
DC Chance was a force in the backfield as Commerce topped the Bears.
Chance was a passing and rushing force as Steve Moss' team defeated Wyandotte. Chance's key target this week was Seth Roberts, who caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Blake Jameson and Chance, the Tigers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Jameson leads the league in passing with 266 yards, while Chance has rushed for 825 yards this season. Quapaw's Kibel leads the league in receiving yards with 209 on 13 catches.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Colcord takes on Salina. At the moment, the Hornets are in second, while the Wildcats are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Colcord takes on Salina. The Hornets have allowed 43 points this season, while Kyle Fowler's team has given up 49.
The Wildcats moved up to 124 from 152 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 8. Salina was able to move up by topping Ketchum 44-14.
