Softball Recap: Saluda Makes It 12 in a Row at Home

Saluda waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Blacksburg Wildcats get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Miller Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Saluda let Ashlynn Vereen and Nyla Jordan run wild. Vereen went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Jordan went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Vereen has posted since back in March. Karen A was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Saluda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blacksburg struck out ten times.

Saluda's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Blacksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.

As of now, neither Saluda nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
