Sanford scored a stunning upset when it knocked off South Portland, 33-32. At the time, the Red Riots were ranked 15th in the state, while the Spartans were 27th.
Ben Greenberg and Brendon Smith provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Biddeford. The connection was good for 61 yards, the longest such play in A West this season.
Scarborough's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Greenberg threw for 140 and 2 touchdowns and Smith had 69 yards receiving. On the ground Dan LeClair chipped in 202 yards. Chris Cyr helped Scarborough's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 68 yards.
Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Red Storm defeated the Tigers. The 6-foot-2 senior racked up 1 sack.
Greenberg put up the best numbers in passing as Scarborough beat Biddeford. Greenberg's favorite target this week was Smith, who caught 2 passes for 69 yards.
On the heels of Greenberg and LeClair, Lance Johnson's team has had great success on offense. Greenberg is tops in the league in passing with 938 yards, while LeClair has rushed for 1,054 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Sanford's John Morgan, with 425 yards on 26 catches.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Bonny Eagle and the Red Storm. The Scots enters the game ranked fourth in the state, while Scarborough ranks 12th.
The Red Storm's offense has recorded 319 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Bonny Eagle has permitted only 137 on the year.
Next week's game between Scarborough and Kevin Cooper's team will feature an aerial matchup as Greenberg tests his arm against Joe Bissonnette's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when the Scots and the Red Storm face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Bonny Eagle comes in having scored 268 this season, while Scarborough has scored 319.
Mike Fallon's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating South Portland. The Spartans came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
