Basketball Recap: Amherst's Loss Ends 15-Game Winning Streak at Home

It was a good run, but Amherst unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak dating back to last season on Monday. They took a hard 59-45 fall against the Kearney Catholic Stars. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Stars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Amherst's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braylon Russell, who posted 16 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kyler Jones, who earned eight points and six rebounds.

Kearney Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Oliver Sharp, who had 23 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sharp has scored at least a third of Kearney Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Bosshamer, who put up 16 points along with five assists and four steals.

Amherst's defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-1. As for Kearney Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Amherst didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-36 win against St. Cecilia on the 31st. As for Kearney Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-38 victory against York on the 31st.
