String Theory's's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They came out on top against ASPIRA Charter by a score of 62-52. The win was all the more spectacular given String Theory's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 441st in Pennsylvania, while ASPIRA Charter is ranked 45th in Delaware).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead String Theory to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Pezzetti, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Pezzetti has scored at least 25% of String Theory's points. Another player making a difference was Justus Robertson, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
ASPIRA Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cristian Cotto, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cotto pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zy'aire Gibson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, ASPIRA Charter were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as String Theory only pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.
The victory got String Theory back to even at 5-5. As for ASPIRA Charter, they bumped their record down to 3-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
String Theory will be playing at home against Frankford at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Frankford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday. As for ASPIRA Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Odyssey Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
