Alden Bass made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Logan Bass was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Anna-Kayte Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Union County fell victim to Branford and their airtight pitching crew last Tuesday. They came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 6-0. The Fightin' Tigers have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Union County's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Madison County, their win bumped their record up to 18-1.
Union County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Madison County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Union County, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Madison County keep running through batters, or will the Fightin' Tigers buck the trend?
