If the Payson Longhorns were riding high off their 67-31 takedown of the Chino Valley Cougars on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Payson fell 57-47 to Northwest Christian on Thursday. Payson lost against Northwest Christian in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-58 score last time.
Despite the loss, Payson still got an impressive performance from Anderson Hatch, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dominik Stuerzer, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Payson now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Northwest Christian, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Payson will head out on the road to face off against American Leadership Academy - Ironwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American Leadership Academy - Ironwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Payson likes a good challenge. As for Northwest Christian, they will be playing at home against Odyssey Institute at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
