Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hasbrouck Heights

Hasbrouck Heights had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Eastside Ghosts as they made off with a 17-2 victory. While the Aviators didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Maddy Connelly and Katelin Cowan dominated on the mound. Connelly pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Cowan pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Connelly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hasbrouck Heights got a massive performance out of Giuliana Terranova, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Terranova is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Kailen Peterson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Hasbrouck Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Hasbrouck Heights' win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Eastside, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hasbrouck Heights will venture away from home to face off against NV - Demarest at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Eastside, they will challenge Passaic County Tech at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Ghosts will no doubt try to take advantage of.
