Basketball Recap: Mt. Zion Piles Up the Points Against Elite Scholars Academy

Mt. Zion won the last time they faced Elite Scholars Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Mt. Zion Eagles claimed a resounding 81-36 win over the Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights. The match marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season.

Mt. Zion got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Waters out in front who went 9 of 13 en route to 22 points and five boards. Waters is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Xavier Buckner was another key player, going 6 for 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds.

Mt. Zion was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elite Scholars Academy only posted six assists.

Despite the loss, Elite Scholars Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremiah Janiver posted six points and three steals. What's more, Janiver also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xavier Charles-Jones, who went 6 of 12 en route to 12 points.

Mt. Zion is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Mt. Zion will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Zion is facing Greenville at the right time seeing as Greenville is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
