Even though the Northside Christian Mustangs scored an imposing 57 points on Thursday, the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons still came out on top. St. Petersburg Catholic managed a 61-57 victory over Northside Christian. The victory was all the more spectacular given St. Petersburg Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Northside Christian is ranked 90th).
Elise Graham was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with 8 steals and 5 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of St. Petersburg Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Spoor, who scored 6 points along with 16 rebounds and 7 blocks.
Despite the loss, Northside Christian had strong showings from Rilee Knight, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals, and Sydney White, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. The matchup was Knight's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sofia Rodriguez, who scored 7 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
St. Petersburg Catholic now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Northside Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Petersburg Catholic will challenge Victory Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Victory Christian Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Northside Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Lakeside Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
