Grissom is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Thursday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Albertville Aggies at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Grissom was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Falkville on Monday. Grissom put the hurt on Falkville with a sharp 19-3 win. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 17-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
While Albertville didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-21-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Gadsden City 14-3 on Thursday. The victory was just business as usual for the Aggies, who after six games remain undefeated this season.
Adison Pierce made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Henley Kilpatrick, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Raylee Craven, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Albertville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gadsden City only posted an OBP of .346.
Albertville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Grissom, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Everything went Grissom's way against Albertville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Grissom made off with a 10-3 win. Does Grissom have another victory up their sleeve, or will Albertville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
