The Hurricane Tigers will welcome the Provo Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hurricane is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past Highland to the tune of 43-7. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Tigers just coasted through the last quarter.
Hurricane's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Bradley Rose and Nathan Swapp, who each picked up one interception apiece.
Meanwhile, Provo had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-6 victory over the Skyhawks.
Hurricane better keep an eye on Malik Filimoe'Atu. He was instrumental in Provo's win, rushing for 171 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 66 receiving yards. Those 171 rushing yards gave Filimoe'Atu a new career-high. Brexton Hunter got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Provo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Provo's defense and their three sacks. Griffin Demartini refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. Provo received some extra help from Makeli Toutai, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Hurricane's record now sits at 7-3. As for Provo, their record is now 7-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Hurricane has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 427.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like Provo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 387.3 total yards.
