Wakefield is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Millbrook is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wakefield Wolverines will take on the Millbrook Wildcats at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Wakefield posted their biggest victory since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Wake Forest with a sharp 66-43 win. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Wake Forest is ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taj Boone-Chambers was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with two steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Syncere Burnette was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Millbrook took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 84-52 win over Rolesville. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Millbrook has posted against Rolesville since January 9, 2021.
It was another big night for Colt Langdon, who scored 31 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Millbrook's points. Another player making a difference was Alex Olander, who scored 16 points.
Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Millbrook, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Wakefield have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Millbrook, though, as they've been averaging only 2 rebounds per game. Given Wakefield's sizeable advantage in that area, Millbrook will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wakefield might still be hurting after the 83-60 loss they got from Millbrook when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wakefield was down 57-27.
