East Side extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating Velma Jackson, 52-24. The win marks 11th in a row for the the Trojans.
Dy'monquae Pates and Quadre Butler gave East Side a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Pates threw for 63 yards and two touchdowns, while Butler ran for 185 yards. Pates also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Tyron Lemon was the best wideout in the league this week as McClain defeated Ruleville Central. Lemon tallied three receptions for 76 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Rotavious Thurmond of the Mustangs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1407. He has also thrown 20 touchdowns. On the ground, Roger Burton's team's Butler has rushed for 1434 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Devante Crow. The Leflore County star has 26 catches for 648 yards.
McClain's Thurmond is a mere 87 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Thurmond has rushed for 913 yards on 92 carries so far this year.
Joshua Mathews' team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,129 from 8,275. The improvement came about via a 20-12 victory over the Tigers last week.
