The Haughton Buccaneers will be taking part in a tournament against the Iowa Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Haughton and Byrd, and Haughton kept the tradition alive. Haughton blew past Byrd 20-4 on Thursday. With that victory, the Buccaneers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Reese Mayfield was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Carsyn Kizzia also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Haughton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Iowa had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 21-1 win.
Ayla Stollsteimer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stollsteimer was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Iowa let Parkar Daigle and Andie Huval run wild. Daigle scored four runs while going 3-for-4, while Huval scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Allie Darbonne was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Iowa's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Haughton, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Haughton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Iowa struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
