South Johnston is 9-1 against Smithfield-Selma since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

EJ Stridiron was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Stridiron was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Smithfield-Selma got a massive performance out of Andrew Hartman, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Hartman a new career-high. Cayden Gregory was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Smithfield-Selma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
South Johnston pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Smithfield-Selma, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-18.
Everything went South Johnston's way against Smithfield-Selma in their previous matchup back in March, as South Johnston made off with a 22-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
