The Chase County Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Wabaunsee Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Chase County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Wabaunsee will come in with three straight victories.
Chase County came up short against Osage City on Friday, falling 16-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wabaunsee). Everything went their way against Burlingame on Thursday as they made off with a 22-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Reese Michaelis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Wabaunsee got a massive performance out of Kendra Conrad, who went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Conrad has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Meredith Denton, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Wabaunsee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Wabaunsee pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Chase County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Chase County couldn't quite get it done against Wabaunsee when the teams last played back in March of 2019 as they fell 5-2. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
