The Greenfield Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Gonzales Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenfield is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Greenfield stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 38-7 victory over Pajaro Valley on the road.
Alexander Martinez was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Nathan Cox made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Gonzales' good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 40-14 walloping at the hands of Stevenson. Gonzales was down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Gonzales' loss came about despite a quality game from Ely Cisneros, who rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Greenfield's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Pajaro Valley and 1-8 Marina (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 16.7% over those games). As for Gonzales, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Greenfield against Gonzales in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greenfield since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
