The West Shore Wildcats were the 42-16 winner over the Melbourne Bulldogs when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. West Shore took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Melbourne on Wednesday.
Melbourne was led to victory by Alison Hayes and Gabrielly Bortolucci. Hayes scored 13 points along with five rebounds, while Bortolucci dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Addyson Turba, who scored four points along with three steals.
West Shore's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Melbourne, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
West Shore will be home for the holidays to greet Merritt Island at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Merritt Island is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Melbourne won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cocoa at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Cocoa presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Melbourne in Florida (Cocoa is ranked 209th, while Melbourne is ranked 470th).
