Canton scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Merritt, 46-34. At the time, the Oilers was ranked 19th in the state, while the Tigers was 36th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Merritt, who took down 19th ranked Merritt, 46-34.
Pond Creek-Hunter's dynamic duo of Josh Irvin and Trenton Grimes proved tough for Waukomis to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Irvin threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns and Grimes had 44 yards receiving. Hayden Semrad helped Pond Creek-Hunter's passing attack out by catching one ball for 43 yards.
Gage Smith was the most productive running back in B District 1 (8 Man) this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 311 yards as Covington-Douglas defeated the Chiefs. Teammate Quenten Thayer added to the ground attack by rushing for 189 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Irvin and Brady Krittenbrink Pond Creek-Hunter has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Irvin leads the league in passing with 471 yards, while Krittenbrink has rushed for 867 yards this season. The Wildcats' Dylan Daugherty leads the league in receiving yards with 224 on nine catches.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between David Kerr's team and Garber. The Panthers enters the contest ranked second in the state, while the Wolverines ranks sixth.
Smith of Covington-Douglas ran for the longest rushing play in the league this season against Ringwood last week.
