After a string of three wins, the Fernandina Beach Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hilliard. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (55), Fernandina Beach still had to take the loss.
Fernandina Beach's loss came despite strong showings from Jesse Basse and Chase Landtroop. Basse scored 16 points along with two blocks, while Landtroop scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Landtroop continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Miles Townsend was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Hilliard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kevin Thomas led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was CJ Hall, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds.
Fernandina Beach's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for Hilliard, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.
Fernandina Beach will be playing in front of their home fans against KIPP Bold City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hilliard, they will head out on the road to square off against Hamilton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 721st, while Hilliard is ranked 115th).
