Sheldon (Eugene, Ore.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 7 in Oregon, but was stunned by
Canby (Ore.), 24-17. Canby was ranked at No. 11 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Oregon coming into the week.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at 10. The Cougars took the lead indefinitely on a
Cole Thompson touchdown run in the third quarter.
Canby was ahead by as much as 14 before the Irish pulled closer.
CHS entered the contest giving up 24.7 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Sheldon well below its season average of 38.4 points scored per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Sheldon, which notched a 45-21 victory over Tualatin in its previous outing. The win brought Canby's winning streak to three games.
