Softball Recap: Devine Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Devine had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Lago Vista Vikings get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Warhorses have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kenny Cruz and Yaya Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Rodriguez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylynn Hernandez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Devine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lago Vista only posted an OBP of .250.

The victory (which was Devine's fifth in a row) raised their record to 25-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lago Vista, they moved to 18-10 with that loss, which also ended their 16-game winning streak.

Devine will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
