On Thursday, in a tight match that could have gone either way, Holy Cross made off with a 44-43 victory over Grace M. James Academy of Excellence. The win made it back-to-back wins for Holy Cross.
Despite the defeat, Grace M. James Academy of Excellence saw an underclassman step up: Alicea Mangrum almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Mangrum pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Mosley, who scored ten points.
Holy Cross' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Grace M. James Academy of Excellence, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
Holy Cross won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fairdale at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Grace M. James Academy of Excellence will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Southern at 7:15 p.m. on February 15th.
