Newberry moved up to 232 from 293 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A District 7. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Jefferson County 35-12.
Williston took down Hawthorne 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Keith Neal ran for 154 yards and caught 1 passes for 12 yards during the win.
Newberry's dynamic duo of Alex Wilkins and Monte Seabrook proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wilkins threw for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns and Seabrook had 47 yards receiving. Guy Hunt helped Newberry's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
Kepa Sarduy's team's dynamic duo of Wilkins and Seabrook proved to be unstoppable against Jefferson County, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Neal was a passing and rushing force as the Red Devils defeated the Hornets.
Neal was the most successful running back in the league this week. Devon Webb also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
Wilkins put up the best numbers in passing as the Panthers beat the Tigers.
Seabrook was the best wideout in the league this week as Newberry bested Jefferson County.
The Panthers' Wilkins and Seabrook have formed a dream team this season, leading 1A District 7 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Wilkins has thrown for 403 yards this season, while Seabrook has 11 catches for 170 yards. Williston's Neal leads the league in rushing yards with 388.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Newberry's Seabrook goes up against Chiefland's GG McClendon.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Panthers and the Indians face off next week.
Next week's game between Newberry and Chiefland will feature an aerial matchup as Wilkins tests his arm against McClendon's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Jamie Baker's team takes on Dixie County. As it stands, the Red Devils are in first, while the Bears are in third.
