Basketball Recap: Cortez Beats Flagstaff for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Flagstaff typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Cortez proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Flagstaff Eagles by a score of 53-43. Winning may never get old, but the Colts sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Cortez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tylin Hunter led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hunter a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Cassius Henderson, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points.

Cortez's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for Flagstaff, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.

Cortez will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Cortez is facing Coronado at the right time seeing as Coronado is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Flagstaff, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-39 loss against Rincon/University on the 23rd.
