Wheeler hasn't had much luck against Boone Grove recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Bearcats will challenge the Wolves at 12:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
Wheeler is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Whiting a 12-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Oilers: they've now won four in a row.
Calvin Paolone looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Hughes, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jack Gaetz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wheeler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Boone Grove waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Wolves have won 16 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cam Foss made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Foss was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caleb Thomas was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Josh Wilkins was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wheeler's victory bumped their record up to 11-16. As for Boone Grove, their win bumped their record up to 21-5.
Wheeler might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Boone Grove in their previous meeting on May 14th. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
