Basketball Recap: Dr. Phillips Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Dr. Phillips, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 victory over the Mainland Buccaneers on Friday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buccaneers, too.

Mainland's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Canyon Powers, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Powers is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Beegie Gordon, who posted 12 points.

The win got Dr. Phillips back to even at 2-2. As for Mainland, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Coming up, Dr. Phillips and Winter Haven will face off at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Mainland, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wildwood at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
