Dripping Springs is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Steele is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Dripping Springs Tigers will take on the Steele Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dripping Springs had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on Jay with a sharp 50-27 win on Saturday. Given Dripping Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Jay is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dripping Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaceton Gotta, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Gotta was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Williams, who threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Steele has more to be thankful for after their contest against Harlan on Friday. Steele blew past Harlan 48-27. That's two games straight that Steele has won by exactly 21 points.
Chad Warner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 281 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Royal Capell was another key contributor, picking up 134 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 11-2.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Dripping Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Steele struggles in that department as they've been averaging 180 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
