Los Alamos entered their tilt with Pojoaque Valley on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Elks/Elkettes with a sharp 20-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hilltoppers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Malaya Haynes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Haynes was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Los Alamos let Aaliyah Chavez and Reyana Naranjo run wild. Chavez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI, while Naranjo scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those five RBI gave Chavez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Gonzales, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Los Alamos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pojoaque Valley only posted an OBP of .333.
Los Alamos' win bumped their record up to 10-5-1. As for Pojoaque Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Coming up, Los Alamos is taking a road trip to challenge Moriarty at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
