The Academy for Classical Education Gryphons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight defeat. They took a 52-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northeast. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Academy for Classical Education in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now lost four in a row.
Academy for Classical Education's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Vincent, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Vincent has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kanyin Oni, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Academy for Classical Education smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Jatavion Zellner, who scored 22 points along with four steals and two blocks for Northeast. It was the first time this season that Zellner posted two or more blocks. Brandon Hill was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Academy for Classical Education has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Northeast, their victory bumped their record up to 3-16.
Academy for Classical Education will head out on the road to face off against the Red Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Jordan is ranked 528th, while the Gryphons are ranked 514th). As for Northeast, they will be playing at home against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwest will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
