The Monte Vista Mustangs will square off against the San Ramon Valley Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monte Vista is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Monte Vista and Foothill have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Mustangs took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.
Monte Vista saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carina Shi, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Shi hit this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Ramon Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Livermore on Tuesday as they made off with a 7-1 victory. The Wolves not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th.
Lila McLeod spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mads Sekera, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Addie Layous was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
San Ramon Valley pushed their record up to 9-6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Monte Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monte Vista has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Ramon Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Monte Vista came up short against San Ramon Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
