Wheatland moved up to 455 from 528 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Butte View. The Pirates climbed the ranks as a result of besting Winters 48-20.
Sutter extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Enterprise, 34-27. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Huskies.
Wheatland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jackson Hopking threw for 111 and three touchdowns and Mike Woods had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Cooper chipped in 202 yards. Jordan Samson helped Wheatland's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.
Samson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Neil Stinson's team defeated the Warriors. The 6-foot-0 junior forced two fumbles, recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
The Pirates' Hopking and Samson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hopking has thrown for 1039 yards this season, while Samson, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 26 catches for 584 yards. Chris Mayes from Winters leads the league in rushing with 957 yards.
Daniel Ward's team's Mayes needs only 43 yards against Gridley next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in Butte View this week will be when Orland takes on Wheatland. The Trojans are in third place, while the Pirates are in second place.
Las Plumas led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on the Bulldogs.
