Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way put the finishing touches on their 17th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Paragon Academy 90-49 on the road. Given Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Paragon Academy is ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but TJ Clark led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Clark pulled down eight or more rebounds. Camren Houser was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, ASU Prep scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They walked away with an 82-69 win over Heritage Academy. The win was just what ASU Prep needed coming off of a 61-39 loss in their prior matchup.
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way pushed their record up to 21-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for ASU Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Everything went Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's way against ASU Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way made off with a 77-57 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
