Mercedes is 8-1 against Rio Grande City since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Tigers will face off against the Rattlers. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Mercedes sitting on eight straight victories and Rio Grande City on 18.
Mercedes is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against McAllen by a score of 8-4.
Abigail Trevi?o was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 12 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kristine Garcia, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Aleeyah Sierra was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Mercedes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Rio Grande City sidestepped Gregory-Portland for a 3-2 win.
Rio Grande City saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caylani Cantu, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Rio Grande City's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mercedes, their record is now 18-6.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mercedes hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Rio Grande City struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Mercedes' way against Rio Grande City in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Mercedes made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
