, the No. 2 Class 3A team in the state, pounded Eastside Catholic 61-42 in the
Bellevue Community College tournament. The BCC tourney is one of the state's oldest; this was the 37th edition.
Derek Lowe scored 17 points for Renton (10-0), earning tourney MVP honors.
Vince Taylor, headed to Washington on a football scholarship, led Eastside Catholic with 13.
Boys Basketball: Bush Leads Inglemoor to Comcast Title
Will Bush won the 3-point shooting contest and hit a couple key long-range shots as Inglemoor beat Mount Rainier 70-59 in the title game of the Comcast Christmas Classic in Bothell.
Bush scored 22 points in the win and tourney MVP Mark McLaughlin added 14.
Inglemoor (5-5) knocked off consecutive ranked teams to win the title. Mount Rainier is the No. 8 Class 3A team in the state.
Boys Basketball: Title Game an SPSL Showdown
Two undefeated teams hailing from the South Puget Sound League make for a pretty good title game.
Auburn, from the SPSL Class 3A division, beat Decatur, from the SPSL South (4A), in the title game of the Harbour Homes Classic 67-63.
Auburn improved to 10-0 while knocking Decatur to 10-1.
Ryan Snowden, named the tourney's MVP, scored 48 points for Auburn in its two wins.
ALSO: In an All-Washington final of the Cactus Division at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix, Lake Stevens beat Woodinville 53-42. . Paul McMullen's 27-footer in overtime lifted Bonney Lake to the Slam Division title at the Surf `n Slam tournament in San Diego, as it beat Bella Vista of Fair Oaks, Calif.,50-49. . No. 1 Franklin had 28 turnovers in a 96-89 loss to Gahr of Cerritos, Calif., in the fifth-place game of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic in San Diego. Peyton Siva had 31 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Franklin (7-2), which went 2-2 at the tourney. . Josh Smith, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, scored 25 points as No. 9 Kentwood beat Prairie 54-41 in the title game of the River Ridge Winter Challenge in Lacey.
Girls Basketball: Riverside Bounces Back in Own Tourney
After going 1-3 at the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona, the Auburn Riverside Ravens bounced back to win their own tournament.
The No. 3 Ravens (6-3), the defending Class 3A champs, used a 13-0 run at the end of the first quarter to beat Sheldon (Ore.) 69-48 in the title game of the Riverside Invitational's navy bracket.
Washington State recruit Katie Grad led the way with 24 points.
Girls Basketball: Top-Ranked Issaquah Rolls at Comcast
The No. 1 Issaquah Eagles finished off 2007 undefeated (8-0) after beating Kentwood 54-44 in the title game of the Comcast Christmas Classic.
ALSO: Ballard (10-0) beat St. Mary's of Berkeley,Calif., 47-44 in the title game of the Surf Division at the Surf `n Slam tournament in San Diego. . Inglemoor beat Archbishop Murphy 51-50 in the title game of the Hornet Holiday Classic at White River.
Football: Middleton Second-Team All-American
Lakes' tight end Kavario Middleton, who is committed to the University of Washington, was named a second-team All-American by USA Today.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end was the only player in the state honored.
