The Miami Wardogs will head out to square off against the Rejoice Christian Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Miami has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wagoner hit Miami with a seven-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wardogs lost 11-1 to the Bulldogs. The Wardogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Miami saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Lillard, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rejoice Christian). They blew past Aspire HomeSchool 22-14 on Thursday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Callen Duncan was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Duncan was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Rejoice Christian is undefeated when Duncan posts two or more runs, but 12-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, Micah Walker was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with six RBI, one run, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Lawson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Rejoice Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matches.
Rejoice Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Miami, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
Miami couldn't quite get it done against Rejoice Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 as they fell 11-7. Can the Wardogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
